DIY SUGAR Bowls (Easy Recipe)

by | Feb 22, 2018 | Desserts

DIY sugar bowls using balloons, these are amazingly beautiful and a perfect addition to your kids’ birthday party 🙂 Now, if you’ve never made sugar bowls before it’s actually quite simple. Making bowls out of sugar and balloons may not pave the way for your own reality show, but they will certainly grab your guests’ attention. These bowls are easy, fun and so delicious they may make you want to float away.

Here’s what you’ll need:

300g (10.58 ounces) sugar 200g (7.05 ounces) glucose syrup 75mL (2.54 fluid ounces) water Flavouring and colouring (optional) Candy Thermometer Balloons (CAUTION make sure you have helium quality balloons and test with an un-inflated one first to check it does not melt).

Instructions:

With soap and water, rinse a balloon. Fill the balloon with water to the size of a cereal bowl. Dry with paper towel and rub with a little oil. Place the water balloon on top of a container that has a smaller diameter than the balloon.

Mix together sugar, water and glucose syrup and stir until the sugar is dissolved. Heat the syrup up to 150C (302 degrees F). Remove from the heat and stir in desired colours. Then pour over the balloon. Leave to cool completely then make a small cut in the balloon and let it deflate. Store in an airtight container until ready to use.
We chose ice cream and sprinkles, but there are so many ways you could fill these Bowls. You might want to try: ♦Frozen yogurt ♦Homemade truffles ♦Fresh berries and cream ♦Cake and ice cream However you choose to fill these beautiful edible bowls, they’ll be a hit at your next get together!
